Get A Grip On It

GET A GRIP ON IT

Text: 2 Sam 23:9-10

Introduction:

A.     ELEAZAR was one of David’s mighty men, One of top 3 men.

1)      The Philistines had attacked the Israelite army and it had retreated.

2)      Eleazar, David and two more stood their ground and fought.

3)      Four men against a whole army - They won because God fought on their side.

B.     “Fall Back” cried the Israelite army…

1)      The Philistines began falling back..

2)      The dust was thick - When it settled, ELEAZAR was standing in the midst of dead bodies.

C.     I’ve visualized many times: Men all around ELEAZAR – the Philistines all dead….

1)      He wants to lay down his sword, but his hand is embedded into the hilt of it.

2)      Had fought so hard, gripped his sword so tightly that when he tries to lay it down he cannot.

3)      That s what I call standing for God!

D.     We need more Eleazars Today.

1)      Those willing to fight against the foes of God.

2)      Willing to fight against ALL Odds.

3)      Sin is Rampant today - It is like wildfire…

I)       GET A TIGHT GRIP ON GOD’S WORD.  The Bible Doesn’t Need to Be Re-Written - It Needs To Be Re-read

A)      HOW MEN EXAMINE THE BIBLE.

1)      Examine Bible in the light of History - They ought to Examine History in the light of the bible.

2)      It is right in its doctrine - And in its prophecy.

B)      LOOK AT WHAT MAN DOES.

1)      We sit around examining the Jawbone of an Ass when we ought to be killing the Philistines.

2)      When all the time the whole world needs these simple truths put to their hearts..

(a)    Man is a sinner - Christ is the Saviour of sinners

(b)    If sinners don’t get saved they go to hell..

C)     LOOK AT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT JESUS. Gal 4:4

1)      When Jesus came they look for the Messiah - But they looked for Him in palaces and mansions.  They looked for an earthly king To lift them up on high;  But He came a little Baby thing that made a woman cry.

2)      Came when the “Fulness Of Time Was Come”

3)      He Is Coming Again.   1Thes 4:16-17

D)     WHAT CHRISTIANS NEED TO DO.

1)      Take your Bible - Put your thumb around book of Revelation – Wrap your finger around the book of Genesis..

2)      Hold it up to a lost dying world  declare I believe It All “In The Beginning” To The Last “Amen”

E)      3 PRINCIPLES OF INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLE

1)      There Is No Contractions;

2)      There Is Contextual Principle (Read what goes on before & after)

3)      There Is Ethical Principle.

II)      GET A TIGHT GRIP ON THE GOSPEL.

A)      THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY IS THREEFOLD  Mt 28:19-20

1)      To Bring Them In

2)      To Build The Up

3)      To Send Them Out.

B)      I HOPE MY MINISTRY MAKES A DIFFERENCE

1)      I don’t want to stray away from the Cross…

2)      I hope to be over on the sweet banks of deliverance - sitting on  my heavenly rainbow - with my feet hanging down - reading my title to my mansion in the sky - with honeydew all over my soul  watching the Devil  take Cobalt treatments for his cancer of sin.

C)     I WANT TO KEEP A TIGHT GRIP ON THE GOSPEL  1 Cor 2:2

III)     GET A TIGHT GRIP ON YOUR GOAL.

A)      ELEAZAR HAD ONE GOAL IN MIND - VICTORY

1)      Didn’t stand & say “We Are Going To Get Killed”

2)      He Said “We Are Going To Win This Fight The God Of Israel Is On Our Side”

3)      He didn’t care if he lived or died - He just cared about VICTORY

B)      WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THE BATTLE WAS OVER?

1)      He Looked to see if the Philistines were stirring.

2)      Only then did he put His Sword down…

3)      He had a Goal In Mind - Kill The Philistines.

C)     WHAT IS MY GOAL?

1)      To STIR up Our People, Not To Pet Them.

2)      Wouldn’t it be exciting if people just did right because they were suppose to?

3)      Wouldn’t it be wonderful is you said “I’m Saved Now, So I’m Going To Give My Tithe”

4)      It would be a true miracle if some of you would go out Soul Winning Willingly.

CONCLUSION:

1.  One day we will all stand before the throne of God

2. And Then Only Can We Lay The Sword Down.  2 Tim 4:8

THE DEVILS DEVICES TO DECEIVE DISCIPLES

Download this Message October 15 2006 in PDF format

Text: 1 Thes 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.  1 Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,  walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

  1. First of all we might as well face the reality of the Devil's existence.
    1. LUCIFER, the shining one, was head of a host of angels placed of the realm of material things
    2. He was not satisfied and said… Isa 14:13 ..I will ascend into heaven, I will  exalt my throne above the stars of God:…
  2. God Cast Satan Out Of Heaven, And He Has Become The Fierce Enemy Of God And Man
    1. He is against all that is right and good.
    2. Some 40 names are given to this Sly – Cunning, Ugly - Ungodly - Deceptive - Sinister Figure.
  3. This Message Sets Forth Some Of The DEVICES He Uses To Ruin And Destroy…

I)       HE MAKES SIN LOOK ATTRACTIVE.

A)     HE DECEIVES..

1.      The poor - lost deluded souls..

2.      He makes them into thinking that sin is the best thing in this life…

B)     HE HAS MADE SIN SO ATTRACTIVE THAT THE HUMAN RACE CAN'T SEEM TO RESIST.

1.      Made the forbidden fruit in EDEN so attractive,

2.      Eve did not resist..

3.      Then she enticed and insisted that her husband eat also.

II)     SATAN SEEKS TO STOP THE WORD

A)     REMEMBER THIS.

1.      The Bible will keep you from sin..

2.      Sin will keep you from the Bible..

B)     SATAN SEEKS TO STOP THE WORD.

1.      He don't want you to read the Bible.

2.      He don't want us preachers to preach or teach the Word of God.

3.      He don’t want any Christian to believe the Word

C)    SATAN'S IST LINE OF ATTACK IS AGAINST THOSE WHO WOULD SPREAD THE WORD.

1.      In The O.T Israel Was God's Witness..

(a)   Day and night Satan attacked this people..

(b)   It seemed as though he was successful when Jesus came on the world in Human Form..

(c)   "He Came To His Own {The Jews} And His Own Received Him Not."

(d)   Satan's deception caused them, as a nation, to reject the Son Of God.

2.      In The N.T., The Age Of Grace, The Church Age.

(a)   Satan made assault after assault on the Church.

(b)   He knows that the Church has the commission to preach the Gospel to every creature.

3.      What Is His Attack??

(a)   It consist of seeking to damage the influence of the members.

(b)   He first sought to destroy the Church from the outside through SAUL of Tarsus.

(c)   That failed because God saved SAUL and he became an Apostle and a soldier of the Lord.

4.      Satan Then Moved On The Inside Of The Church Seeking To Destroy It From Within…

(a)   He gets members in the THORN PATCH & lets the Cares of this life Choke out their Fruitfulness

(b)   He gets them in the DOUBT PATCH so they will doubt all that is right.

(c)   He gets them in the DON'T PATCH and they Don't go to Church - Don't Pray - Don't Read The Bible - Don't Witness.

5.      He Gets Members Cross-ways with each other.

(a)   So that they become critical of the Church..

(b)   So that they see what they want to see.

(c)   So that they look at the poorest example of a Christian and say "If That's A Christian"

III)   HE ATTACKS GOD'S PREACHERS.

A)     TRUE THAT SATAN HAS HIS OWN PREACHERS

1.      He has transformed them into Angels of Light.

2.      They deceive poor lost sinners..

3.      2 Cor 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

B)     SATAN SEEKS TO DESTROY PREACHERS

1.      Those men who proclaim Thus Saith The Word

2.      God's real men today are under constant attack

C)    HERE IS WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK TODAY.

1.      Satan has better sense than attack God's man

2.      What better way does Satan have to accomplish his purpose than to attack God's Man.

3.      His purpose is to Hinder The Word, And God's man is the PROCLAIMER Of The Word.

D)    HOW SATAN WILL HINDER GOD'S MAN.

1.      He will hinder him from the CALL of God.

(a)   Moses and Jeremiah are Bible examples.

(b)   Every preacher today will tell you that SATAN sought to hinder them from the call to preach..

2.      Hinder God's Man From Surrendering {JONAH}

3.      Wreck The Preacher Home Any Way Possible.

IV)   SATAN'S DECEIVING ATTACK UPON YOUNG PEOPLE.

A)     HOW DOES HE DECEIVE THE YOUNG?

1.      He gets as many hooked on DRUGS as possible.

2.      Gets them hooked on false hope and religion.

3.      He deceives them into living together rather than marriage.

B)     SATAN DISCOURAGES THEM FROM CHURCH.

1.      To avoid the activities of Church

2.      To stay away from youth meetings.

V)     SATAN DECEPTION IS TO GIVE THE WORLD ANOTHER GOSPEL.

A)     A BLOODLESS - SOCIAL - GRACELESS  FAITHLESS GOSPEL.

B)     THERE IS NO OTHER GOSPEL. Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

CONCLUSION:

  1. Satan discourages sinners from hearing and believing the Gospel of Christ.
  2. Satan deceives by getting the sinner to believe there is No Hell – NO Heaven
  3. Don't let Satan drag you to hell - Repent and believe Christ before it is too late.

Message October 1 2006 in PDF format

Text: 1 Thess 1:1-10

Introduction:

A)     Paul gives a great thought of his favorite church

B)     Paul must have been from the south "We give thanks to God always for You All"

C)    This model church was in the wickedest of cities.

I)       THEY WERE AN ELECT PEOPLE

A)     THE CHURCH"EKKLESIA" ¬CALLED OUT GROUP 1 Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”

1)     These people heard the Gospel…

2)     They Believed – They were Saved…

B)     HOW DID PAUL KNOW THEY WERE SAVED?

1)     1st By their works of Faith

(a)   They Worked – Vs 3 “Remembering…Your work of faith”

(a)   Jms 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so without works is dead also”

(b)   Heb 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

(c)   Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

2)     2nd – They were dying for the cause of Christ.

3)     Yet – Nothing was separating them from the cause of Christ

II)     THEY WERE AN OBEDIENT PEOPLE

A)     THE HEARERS BECOME FOLLOWERS. Vs 6 “And ye became followers of us..”

1)     They Heard the Word…

2)     They Welcomed the Word…

3)     They Believed the Word…

4)     Then they Suffered for the cause of Christ.

B)     THEY WERE A SUFFERING PEOPLE.

1)     1 Thess 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

2)     If you live long enough for Christ you will suffer for Him.

III)   THEY WERE AN ENTHUSIASTIC PEOPLE Vs 8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God¬ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

A)     THIS CHURCH WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD

1)     In Vs 7 They witnessed by their Walk. “Ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia.”

2)     In Vs 8 They witnessed by their Talk. "From you sounded out the word of the Lord"

B)     THEY WERE BLOWING CHRIST’ TRUMPET NOT THEIR OWN TRUMPET. Vs 8 “in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.”

IV)   THEY WERE AN EXPECTANT PEOPLE Vs 9¬10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. A)

A)     THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST IS THE THEME OF THIS BOOK

1)     The saved are Serving the Living God.

2)     The saved are Rejoicing in the Living Hope.

B)     WE ARE TO BE WORKING WHEN HE COMES.
